Meet the faces behind the wine
Kármán Wines is the new project of the prestigious Gómez Cruzado winery. It is located in Badarán and its objective is to make high-quality young wines, taking advantage of the freshness of the local Grenache, which are ideal for making this type of wine. The winery has a production capacity of 150,000 kg, with modern and functional facilities.
This strange name for most people comes from what is known as "The Kármán Line" which is defined as the boundary between atmosphere and outer space, for aviation and astronautics purposes. Its altitude is of the order of 100 km and it owes its name to its discoverer, the physicist Theodore von Kármán.
The winery and the wine have taken this name with the idea of reflecting the galactic image of the red lands where the Garnacha with which this wine is made is grown, located in the valley of the Cárdenas river in the Sierra de la Demanda, to the south from the Rioja Alta and on the border with the Castilla-León region.
The Gómez Cruzado group belongs to the Baños family, resident in Mexico, originally from the Riojan town of Badarán. Since 2008, it has been under the direction of the tandem formed by David González and Juan Antonio Leza, experienced winemakers and viticultural technicians with more than a decade of specialized work as consultants for important projects in different wine-growing areas.
Gómez Cruzado is today the 'boutique winery' of the Barrio de la Estación de Haro, with an annual production of close to 200,000 bottles. The project brings together the necessary ingredients to make wines of the highest quality, marked by origin and typicality, betting on the style of the 'fine wines' of the Barrio de la Estación de Haro.
Cherry color of medium intensity and violet rim. Young expression, with a rich aroma full of fruit accompanied by lactic notes. In the mouth it is smooth, with medium structure and little tannic which makes it pleasant and easy to drink. A fine touch of bitterness gives it an extra personality and character. Made with the best raw material to reach, in an accessible way, the great consumer, the young person who starts in the wine and also the demanding fan.
Match your moment
A delicious traditional dish that pairs perfectly with this vinazo.
500 grams of chicken
1 green bell pepper
1 red bell pepper
250 grams of Serrano ham
1 glass of white wine
1.- We will begin our recipe for chilindrón chicken by browning a couple of whole garlic in a saucepan with the next oil.
2.- Season the chicken, and brown it in the pan over high heat, taking care not to burn it. We remove from the pan and reserve.
3.- In that same pan, sauté the onion and garlic over low heat.
4.- At 10 minutes we add the julienned peppers.
5.- After another 10 minutes, add the Serrano ham, the diced tomato and the thyme sprig (optional). Let it cook for about 20 minutes over a very low heat.
6.- When it is cooked, add the chicken that we have previously browned, and a glass of white wine. We let all the alcohol evaporate.
7.- Add a glass of water and cook for 10 to 12 minutes until the chicken is finished.
