The Wine: Bandita

Bandita "by Cascina Tavijn is a rock and grunge red wine produced by Nadia Verrua. Precisely because of this upstream style, the appellation was repeatedly rejected. It comes from old vines and ages in used barrels for at least a year, presenting an intense appearance on the nose. , fruity and earthy, giving a flavor of great energy, freshness and raspy power, wine made with old-fashioned artisanal methods.

The producer:Nadia Verrua

Nadia Verrua is a very brave young woman who represents the fourth generation of a farming family dedicated to the vineyard and cattle. Today it is striking to enter the winery and see her under the command of her parents and her octogenarian aunt who help her with bottling and labeling. Cascina Tavjin in Piedmont means "humble peasant house". His parents had little more than 4 hectares of vineyard whose grapes were sold to the cooperative and a barn with cows and calves, but the latter was no longer sustainable and they had to close it. In 1998 they started bottling the wine, and shortly after, around 2000, Nadia took definitively the reins of the farm and began to make important decisions. Diversify towards the production of hazelnut, increase the vineyard area and, what is more important, give a twist in the care of the vineyard and the elaboration of the wines to jump from a wine of the land, to some wines of plot much more than interesting that is exported to half the world. His first vintage came to light in 2001. Today he has 7 hectares of vineyards and he hopes to soon reach 10, plus 4 hectares. hazelnuts. He has even started to make a very limited run of "business wine", which he still does not know if he will repeat. For years it has suffered the ravages of golden flavescence on the vine, which has led to the death of many vines and the need to continually replant, focusing more and more on the Ruche grape that seems more resistant. The grapes that work the most are Ruche, Grignolino and Barbera, although it also has some Slarina (almost lost variety) and Freisa, and in white some Cortese and other old varieties.

However, we do our best to offer very competitive shipping rates.

What is natural wine

Natural winemaking has become a movement akin to a revolution, a nemesis of the industrialization and homogenization of wine in the last three decades. Natural winemakers are at the forefront of this movement, rejecting industrial winemaking techniques and the excessive use of pesticides, fungicides, herbicides or fertilizers in the vineyard. Perhaps even more importantly, natural wine should be seen as an agricultural product where agriculture is an essential part. Agricultural conditions, labor rights, sustainability and ethical practices throughout the supply chain are now at the center of the natural wine discourse.

Why should you try natural wine?

Natural wine is probably the most fascinating wine on the market. Discovering natural wines is made even more exciting by the fact that each vintage is different and has a different flavor. The non-interventionist winemaking approach, together with the best organic and biodynamic practices in the vineyards, give wines of unique character.
