The Wine: Juicy

Juicy could be the entry wine of Turtle Vineyards, a juicy, fruity and fresh grape juice that will delight any aperitif or informal meal with friends. A rosé made with Merlot and Garnacha. Vinyes Tortuga Juicy is destemmed by hand and the whole bunch is pressed. After spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts, half of Vinyes Tortuga Juicy will be aged for four months in used barrels, while the other half will do so in fiberglass tanks. Finally, keeping its totally natural character, Vinyes Tortuga Juicy will not be filtered, clarified or stabilized. DO Empordá in its purest and most natural state.

The producer: Vinyes Tortuga

Dido and Jurriaan fell in love with wine making while traveling the world. They spent 4 years working for the winemakers they loved before finally settling in Alt Emporda, in the north of Catalonia. They found a small Catalan farmhouse with 9.5 hectares of vineyards and, quite ambitiously, they collectively financed enough money to buy it all, plus some old winemaking equipment. They made their first harvest in 2018 and every day they discover more and more about the land, the climate and the terroirs in their new home and they will surely gain more and more knowledge with each new vintage. The vineyards are located 20 km from the sea, and the influence of the sea here is strong. The salty sea breeze brings humidity, while the force of the Tramuntana from the Pyrenees is cool and dry. Although it can sometimes be destructive, it is essential to prevent mold and mildew. The soil here is almost identical to that of the Priorat, the famous licorella, a mixture of slate and graphite. The vineyard has a relatively low elevation, 150 m at its peak. Dido and Jurriaan are dedicated to making wine in the purest possible way. They don't pump their wines, opting to move them solely by gravity. They never filter and try to avoid the use of sulfur, using only very small amounts if necessary. They have recently surprised us with the acquisition of one of these old cooperatives, Cooperativa Sant Julià, renamed Fruita Analógica. It will be your "négoce" and your test bench so as not to stop surprising us. They are crazy about music and all their wines are named after songs.

Shipments

Rates and shipping options

At Bebedistinto we like to be transparent in everything we do. When it comes to buying products online, shipping is the most important aspect, which is why we take great care in shipping and handling orders using only 100% recycled packaging material.

An important premise: wine bottles are heavy (about 1.4 kg each) and shipping is expensive. At Bebedistinto we are proud to be an independent online store, and therefore we must charge shipping on most orders, otherwise we would not be in business. However, we do our best to offer very competitive shipping rates.

What is natural wine

Natural winemaking has become a movement akin to a revolution, a nemesis of the industrialization and homogenization of wine in the last three decades. Natural winemakers are at the forefront of this movement, rejecting industrial winemaking techniques and the excessive use of pesticides, fungicides, herbicides or fertilizers in the vineyard. Perhaps even more importantly, natural wine should be seen as an agricultural product where agriculture is an essential part. Agricultural conditions, labor rights, sustainability and ethical practices throughout the supply chain are now at the center of the natural wine discourse.

Why should you try natural wine?

Natural wine is probably the most fascinating wine on the market. Discovering natural wines is made even more exciting by the fact that each vintage is different and has a different flavor. The non-interventionist winemaking approach, together with the best organic and biodynamic practices in the vineyards, give wines of unique character. If you want to know more about this exciting world, click on the "Read more" links. We hope you enjoy learning about natural wine!
